All Things Workplace: Three Ways To Persuade

I have always been sure that sales jobs were a necessary evil, but not for me. Plaid suit and moustache? Not in this lifetime. But cheerleading for others and looking for common ground are things I love. Could it be? Thanks for the food for thought, Steve.

Well, Robyn, maybe this is one more realization in the quest for clearer direction?!

I like how you broke that out and noted that all three types should be on the sales team. It's been my experience that most owners / managers want all three in the same person - but I find that it's challenging to be really good at all three but easier to to master at least one.

    Melody,

Human nature + keeping costs down seems to steer us toward toward wanting an "all things for all occasions" employee.

As you point out, it's easier to master one, especially when you start to zero in on the one that's most "you." Then, the individual stands a good chance of seeing the kind of product, service, and sales process that's going to be a good fit for all concerned.

The article was prompted by a client meeting. They were making "team" presentations to prospective clients but didn't have the right mix. So, the task became finding the right mix. The fascinating solution was that we found a woman in technical services--not sales-- who knew the product intimately and had the unifying/negotiating talents along with it.
